We all want to be heard, at first, that’s all; and then to be heard by someone who will not judge our feelings harshly, but with understanding instead. We want someone who can listen to what we want, relief for our thoughts and feelings, and can help us understand what “the problem” is. I started my journey in counseling with my Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Management Science in 1970, with an interest in human behavior and motivation. Why do some people have mental and emotional problems and some don’t? What caused these differences? So I began studying New Age Psychology on my own and throughout my life. It wasn’t until later in life that I earned my Master’s Degree as a Licensed Professional Counselor (in 2011). I love helping others and genuinely enjoy working with people by helping them treat those negative feelings. I help them decrease feeling distraught, sad, ashamed, angry, guilty, etc., about their lives, themselves, their intimate and social relationships, and their behaviors. People hurt, and they want to talk to someone to get explanations, and to prove they’re not “Crazy”. It’s the reason I studied so intensely, and still do; and the reason I treat people with that same intensity and sincerity they deserve.

Jacob Martinez, LPC-InternHi! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern. I have a Master of Arts in Community Counseling from The University of Texas at San Antonio. I also have a background in (and love learning about) anthropology, art history, and world religions.I understand that there is never just one way of looking at, or approaching our lives. Often when we encounter issues, we try to solve them in the same way we always have, this works a lot of the time, but every once in a while it doesn't. If you are considering therapy, you've probably tried a few things on your own but are still feeling stuck. My passion is working with my clients to experience things a little differently, and using our collective creativity to help us feel better. This can often look a lot different than just sitting in a chair and talking!I work with individuals, couples, and families, with a wide range of focus including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, effective communication, and grief & bereavement.
